Description
Nepal is endemic for three of the target neglected tropical diseases (NTD) i.e. lymphatic filariasis (LF), trachoma (TR) and soil-transmitted helminthes (STH) for which chemotherapy is available. RTI/Envision, a seven-year project, is one of the world’s leading research institutes, dedicated to improving the human condition in the areas of health and pharmaceuticals, education and training, advanced technology, international development, economic and social development. Since 2006, RTI/Envision has worked with US Agency for International Development (USAID) support in partnership with countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Carribbean to integrate and expand their programs for lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminths, and trachoma. The project has expertise in integrated control program management and implementation, integrated strategic planning and costing, disease mapping, surveillance, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E).
The goal of RTI/Envision is to contribute to the global goal of reducing the burden of targeted NTDs so that they are no longer a public health problem. Its overall strategy for Nepal is to support the national program to reach its goals for elimination of LF and trachoma and control of STH. USAID support for Nepal’s NTD programs began in 2009, under the USAID-funded NTD Control Program and continues under the Envision Project. Through RTI International, USAID provides funding and technical support to the LF, STH, and trachoma programs.
